Applique Block No. 1 Video Tutorial

In this beginner-friendly raw edge appliqué tutorial, we guide you through creating a European tile-inspired quilt block using quilt-as-you-go techniques.

This is the only applique video in the course, because once you’ve learned how to make one block, you’ll have everything you need to confidently create the rest.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • How to prepare and print your PDF appliqué pattern

  • How to print directly onto fusible web

  • The best fusible web options for appliqué

  • How to position and apply appliqué shapes to your fabric

  • Three essential appliqué stitches: zig-zag stitch, blanket stitch, and Monica’s signature sketchy appliqué

You’ll also see Monica demonstrate stitching the block using a zig-zag stitch, making this a perfect place to begin.

FPP Block No. 1 Video Tutorial

This lesson introduces foundation paper piecing, one of the most accurate ways to create precise quilt blocks.

If you’ve ever struggled to achieve perfect points with traditional patchwork, this technique offers a completely different approach, giving you clean lines and sharp results every time.

We begin with a simple and beautiful star block, designed as the perfect introduction to FPP. As the course progresses, we’ll build on these skills and move into more detailed and intricate designs.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • What foundation paper piecing is and why it creates accurate results

  • How to sew your first FPP block step by step

  • Tips to help you feel confident when starting out

How to Quilt Quilt-as-you-go Blocks

In this lesson, we’ll guide you through how to quilt your Secret Path blocks using simple, effective techniques designed to enhance the beauty of each design.

You’ll learn how to quilt both appliqué and foundation paper pieced (FPP) blocks using gentle echo quilting and thoughtful spacing, creating structure, movement, and balance across your quilt. All blocks in this course are quilted using the same method, allowing for consistency and a calm, repeatable process from start to finish.

This is the only quilting video included in the course, and it will support you as you work through each block.

This method is part of our quilt-as-you-go approach, allowing you to build your quilt block by block while keeping the process achievable and enjoyable.

In this video, you’ll learn:

  • How to quilt appliqué shapes

  • How to quilt FPP blocks

  • What ¼” echo quilting is and how to achieve it

  • How to prepare your quilt sandwich

  • Tips for clean, secure quilting

We will see you in Part Two. Feel free to leave any comments or questions below. Love, Alaura & Monica xx
