In preparation for making your quilt, you can begin the preliminary cutting and set these pieces aside until they are needed.
This includes:
• Top background squares for the appliqué blocks
• Top background borders for the foundation paper pieced blocks
• Backing squares
• Batting squares
Taking the time to prepare these pieces early will set you up for a smoother, more enjoyable sewing experience. It allows you to move through each part of the quilt with ease, without needing to stop and cut as you go.
This step has been thoughtfully designed to give you clarity and confidence before you begin. You will find detailed cutting checklists for each quilt size, along with visual cutting guides to help you make the most of your fabric. It also includes helpful explanations, such as how the foundation paper pieced blocks are brought up to size with borders, and guidance on when to cut elements like setting triangles to avoid stretching or fraying .
Fabric allowances have also been carefully considered, including a small buffer for shrinkage, straightening, and any cutting errors, so you can feel supported throughout the process .
