The Island Home Fabric was created in 2021 in collaboration with Aboriginal artist Alex Birdfox and Pattern Poole for the Island Home Quilt-as-You-Go Masterclass. This fabric is digitally printed on organic cotton (140gsm) in Australia by a local supplier using dye sublimation. This sustainable process employs heat and eliminates the use of water, resulting in a vibrant fabric panel.
This panel is 100 cm x 140cm and is used to make the Island Home Quilt; however, you can use it for other projects.
Care Instructions:The fabric has a slightly stiff feel due to the digital printing process.
Please wash before use as follows:
- Hand wash or machine wash with warm water with mild laundry detergent
- Drip dry in the shade or tumble dry on low temperature
- Press with the iron on cotton setting to remove wrinkles
- Cut the panel into 16 separate pieces, ready to make the quilt or use for your desired project
The fabric has a 3% shrinkage rate like other patchwork fabrics.

I've admired this fabric for awhile now. It is used on one of the quilt tutorials taught on site. I finally ordered it and I really should've ordered 2 of them! I followed the directions enclosed with the fabric and it came out soft and lovely. The fabric does feel firmer to touch as the instructions stated, but washing made a big difference. They are beautiful colours and I look forward to making a quilt with it.
I had attempted to find suitable fabrics here in Canada, without success.
The delivery time was speedy, and I was kept informed of its status by Australia's Postal service on a regular basis.
The fabric panel is amazing, and I cannot wait to get started on my Island Home quilt.
Monica, is a wonderful teacher and both Monica and Alora's designs are truly delightful.

Absolutely beautiful fabric and can't wait to use it. Arrived so quickly and wrapped with such care, still debating whether I should have bought a third panel so I could make one each for my three Granddaughters, but there is still time and will see how I go with the first one. I used this panel when I worked on the island home course and I loved the way it stitched and was easy to wash, very pleased I was able to purchase this again, the island home quilt was my first attempt at raw edge appliqué and I loved how t turned out.
It's hard for me to get fabric here in Belize, and although I am not doing the Island Home quilt, I loved the fabrics on this panel. I'll be able to use it for so many things! Good quality, great colors.. Thanks!
