It has been far too long since our last Community Showcase, and honestly, this is one of our favourite things to put together! We absolutely love seeing what everyone has been making with Pattern Poole designs and quilt-as-you-go methods, and the beautiful ways you make each project your own.

If you're looking for a little inspiration for your next project, this is the perfect place to be. So grab a cuppa and enjoy a look through some of the wonderful projects our community has been creating. 💕

Animal House Quilt-as-you-go quilt by Lachlan Sullivan

We were beyond excited and incredibly honoured when Imelda Daly sent us this photo from the Melbourne Craft & Quilt Fair. Animal House was created by secondary school student Lachlan Sullivan using our Rewilding appliqué patterns and quilt-as-you-go methods, and he did an absolutely incredible job. His colourful fabric choices bring so much personality to every animal, and we love the way he has framed the blocks with those vibrant strips.

Even more exciting, Lachlan won the Secondary Student category with his quilt! Seeing a young man in high school take our designs, learn these techniques and create something entirely his own genuinely filled us with joy. Congratulations, Lachlan. What an amazing achievement!

To be honest, this one made me a little emotional. When I received Imelda’s email, I was right in the middle of a bit of a creative struggle, quietly working away on some new appliqué designs that I’ve been keeping under wraps. Seeing a young man in high school choose to make my designs, and then take them all the way to a quilt show, really got the emotions bubbling. It was such a lovely reminder of why I love creating appliqué patterns in the first place. 💕

Rainbow Quilt-as-you-go quilt by Miriam Saye

Miriam put her own beautiful spin on our Rainbow quilt, using nine blocks to create a baby quilt for her newest great-granddaughter. By changing the block formations and arranging the rainbows in her own layout, she created a completely different look while still allowing those gorgeous curved shapes to flow across the quilt. Such a sweet, joyful quilt for a very lucky little girl!

Isn't it wonderful how changing the block arrangement can create an entirely different quilt? Create your own Rainbow quilt with our PDF pattern and free video tutorial. 🌈💕

Baby Quilt-as-you-go Quilt by Kate Smithers

Kate created this gorgeous baby quilt for her nephew using some of our free stitch-and-flip blocks from the 2021 quilt-along, adding a raw-edge appliqué “H” in the centre for a beautiful personalised touch. The soft pastel blues, lilacs, peach, mint and yellow work so beautifully together, with the delicate floral fabric tying the whole quilt together. Such a lovely example of taking individual blocks and turning them into something completely your own.

Time to Bloom Quilt-as-you-go quilt by Sue Hale

Sue took on the challenge of making our king-sized Time to Bloom quilt, and wow, did it pay off! The beautiful range of blues creates such a fresh, striking foundation, while the leafy greens and vibrant pops of orange, red, purple and yellow in the appliqué bring the flowers, butterflies and little garden creatures to life. The combination of traditional patchwork and whimsical appliqué gives the finished quilt an almost enchanted storybook feel. Absolutely gorgeous, Sue!

Island Home Quilt-as-you-go quilt by Tina Shatto

Epic doesn’t even begin to describe Tina’s incredible Island Home quilt! The level of detail in this piece is absolutely breathtaking. We love how she has taken the original design and made it completely her own, extending it with those spectacular quilt-as-you-go borders and adding extra appliqué into the corners to carry the design right through to the very edge.

The crisp background makes the turquoise, pink, purple, green and orange absolutely sing, while all those different patchwork and appliqué elements give you something new to discover everywhere you look. And those flying geese travelling around the outer border are just gorgeous! It’s such a wonderful example of how a pattern can become a starting point for your own creativity.

Absolutely phenomenal work, Tina. This is a true showstopper!

From the Heart Quilt-as-you-go quilt by Maxine Christensen

Maxine created this beautiful quilt as a retirement gift for a coworker of 23 years, making it such a meaningful way to celebrate their time working together. We love the soft vintage florals paired with those striking red hearts, and the red and pale blue borders frame everything beautifully. Maxine used Monica’s quilt-as-you-go with sashing method for the body of the quilt, followed by the easy quilt-as-you-go border method to finish it off. What a gorgeous gift to take into a new chapter of life!

Kona Solids Quilt-as-you-go quilt by Lynn Bonicelli

We’re always so excited to see what Lynn has been working on, and this quilt is absolutely stunning! Made entirely in Kona Solids, the incredible rainbow of colour really lets the geometric blocks shine, and we love how each design flows into the next. Lynn used our 1-to-3 quilt-as-you-go joining method, then finished the quilt with two borders using our easy quilt-as-you-go border method. We’re so glad she decided to add that colourful outer border too. It really does bring the whole quilt together!

Want to see just how easy our 1-to-3 quilt-as-you-go method can be? Watch our free Storm at Sea tutorial below, where Monica demonstrates the method step by step and shows you how to join your quilted blocks together.

Precious Pieces Quilt-as-you-go quilt by Wanda Bibb

Wanda’s Precious Pieces quilt is an absolute celebration of colour! We love the mix of bright florals, soft pastels and bold pops of turquoise, pink and orange, with each block bringing something completely different to the quilt. The scalloped green border is such a gorgeous finishing touch and frames the whole design beautifully. Wonderful work, Wanda!

Precious Pieces Quilt-as-you-go Quilt by Beverly Magee

Beverly put her own spin on our Precious Pieces quilt, making a few creative changes along the way when some of the original blocks and border weren’t quite working for her. We love the result! The soft florals, pinks, greens and blues give the quilt such a beautiful vintage feel, while the patchwork border frames everything perfectly. It’s a wonderful reminder that a pattern doesn’t have to be followed exactly. Sometimes making it your own is half the fun!

Feeling inspired to start your own Precious Pieces quilt? The pattern is available in separate parts, so you can choose your favourite blocks and create a combination all your own. Your Precious Pieces journey begins with Pattern Poole Magazine No. 1.

Strumb Quilt-as-you-go quilt by Sara Robinson

Sara started these Strumb blocks shortly after the pattern was released, and after a few distractions along the way, she finally brought them all together! We love the combination of peach and slate blue running through the quilt, surrounded by that wonderful mix of colourful scraps. The seemingly random blocks come together to create so much movement across the finished quilt, and it’s exactly the kind of project where even the “Ooops!” and “What happened?” blocks can find a happy home.

Got a collection of scraps, strips or fabric crumbs waiting to be used? Why not turn them into a Strumb quilt! It’s easy, fun and wonderfully scrap-friendly, with a PDF pattern available plus a free full-length video tutorial to show you how it all comes together.

1-to-3 Quilt-as-you-go quilt by Carrie McFay

Carrie used our 1-to-3 joining method for the first time to create this gorgeous quilt, and we absolutely love how it turned out! The soft florals and beautiful mix of pink, green and blue give it such a pretty vintage feel, while those little pops of bright pink in the centre of each block add the perfect touch of contrast.

Like so many new techniques, Carrie said there was plenty of stopping and thinking at first, but once she found her rhythm, everything started coming together smoothly. We love seeing someone try a new quilt-as-you-go method and discover that moment when it finally clicks. Beautiful work, Carrie!

Southern Sky Appliqué by Sylvia Prz

Sylvia created these gorgeous Southern Sky appliqués for her seven-year-old grandson, Maxime, to display in his room. We love seeing appliqué used beyond quilts, and these three designs look fantastic framed as their own little pieces of textile art! The bright greens, blues and purples are so much fun against that playful starry background, and we’re sure Maxime will love having them hanging in his room.
