2024 online mystery course theme reveal

Our new book, 'The Quilt as-you-go Companion', is complete, and we are in the final stages of perfecting our test print. Writing a large book has undoubtedly been a learning experience, down to the thickness of paper, font standards and all the graphic work that has gone into it, not to mention the countless hours of taking step-by-step photos and all the writing. Now, it is finally done, and it feels incredible! We can't wait to show you the final result. (Not much longer now).

Now that we have completed that goal, we are onto the next little secret we have been preparing for you: our 2024 online mystery quilt course!

The 2024 online course theme is "Time to Bloom."

Think beautiful folk art flowers, nestled amongst a sampler of patchwork blocks. With each patchwork block, there will be a new technique to master. And, of course, this quilt will be quilt-as-you-go. As this will be our longest-ever online course for an entire year, we wanted to make each lesson as inclusive as possible so that any level of quilter can be a part of the Pattern Poole year-long journey.

The Details:

'Time to Bloom'

Pattern Poole's 2024 Mystery Block of the Month

Theme: Patchwork blocks set amongst floral applique blocks.

Format: Video tutorials and PDF patterns are released on the first Wednesday of the month.

Start date: May 1, 2024.

Cost: $11 per month for 12 months. (Total: $132 Australian dollars).

This year, we will have the option to pay upfront or pay by the month.

About:

Our 2024 Mystery quilt will have something for everyone!

This year, we have two blocks for the price of one. A patchwork block and a bonus floral applique block designed by Alaura. Plus, one bonus patchwork block to make a total of 25 blocks. This will give you the option to make all blocks into a large quilt with a finished size of 80" (203 cm) square. Or, choose the blocks that you like, to create a lap or single bed quilt. For example, you may want to make only the applique blocks or only the patchwork blocks.

The floral blocks will be fusible applique, and you'll have the choice to blanket stitch, zigzag, or sketchy applique them.

The patchwork blocks are all about learning different techniques; we'll start easy to give you the confidence to build up to foundation piecing, curved piecing and maybe even a Y seam.

There will be one background fabric, and we are leaning towards a soft red this year, something that I have always wanted to do. However, you can choose any colour, such as a soft cream, a dreamy pale blue or a striking black background.

For the patchwork and applique, you can use scraps from your stash; however, there will also be a requirements list for those who would like to purchase new fabrics.

We are so excited and can't wait to get started!

The images in this blog post are a preview of some of Alaura's unrefined sketches, this is just to give you an idea of the theme. She likes the idea of drawing folk-style flowers and making them look as though they are dancing.

Stay tuned for next week's post, where we will sort our fabric stash and shop for the perfect background colour. Fingers crossed, we can find the soft red of our dreams! Registrations open soon, to express your interest or to ask questions, please leave us a comment.
