REPLAY LESSON ONE: QUILT AS YOU GO MASTER CLASS - ISLAND HOME!

Updated: Oct 21, 2022

Some people like a mystery quilt and others don’t, now that the mystery has been revealed this will be an ongoing course that can be started at any time.

The Island Home Masterclass is designed to teach you 6 different QAYG joining techniques, giving you the confidence and skill to make your own QAYG quilts. You can read more about the course here.

Interested in our limited edition fabric? The fourth and final print run is now available here.

Here are some tips to help you get started.

Concentrate on 1 part at a time.

Looking too far ahead can be overwhelming, there’s no rush.

Print your course notes and tick each section with a lead pencil as you watch the video.

No question is a silly question. Feel free to ask questions by commenting on this blog post, in the Facebook group or emailing us a studio@patternpoole.com

Start with good pressing habits

Accuracy with cutting and sewing is a given but don’t forget to press your seams correctly.

Make sure that your iron is clean and test on a sample first to find the right heat setting for your iron, start with the cotton setting.

Be gentle. Avoid stretching the fabric by dragging the iron across the seam with a heavy pressure. Steam is not necessary as it can also stretch and distort the fabric.

Set the seam. After you have sewn 2 pieces together and before you open them out, press the stitching line. This heats up the seam.

Open out the 2 pieces and with the right side of the fabric facing up, press the seam towards the darkest fabric. This way you will be able to make sure that there are no creases pressed into the seam as creases will make your pieces smaller than what they should be.

Take your time and enjoy every step.

This is your special time to do something for yourself, to learn and be creative, it’s good for your brain and good for your soul!

To get you inspired, here are some finished quilts from those that participated in round one.
