In this part of the course, we continue building your foundation paper piecing skills as you create the bold Knight’s Cross block. Made using one 10-piece FPP template repeated four times and rotated to form the final design, this block brings together strong geometric lines, layered points, and a striking sense of symmetry.
By now, you should be feeling more confident with foundation paper piecing and beginning to understand which method works best for you. Whether you are using the traditional paper method or the freezer paper method, this block is a wonderful opportunity to keep practising accurate placement, pressing, trimming, and joining your units together with confidence.
Alongside the FPP block, you’ll also create a beautiful appliqué design inspired by Gothic tracery and decorative cathedral-style motifs. The strong four-point centre creates a striking focal point, while the arched curves, soft floral details, and elegant corner motifs bring depth, balance, and old-world charm to the quilt.
This stage is all about refining your skills and enjoying the rhythm of the process. Each block is helping your quilt grow, and we hope you are starting to see The Secret Path come together in your own fabrics and colours.
We absolutely love seeing your creations come to life and look forward to seeing your next blocks. If you have any questions along the way, feel free to leave them below.
Happy quilting!

Part 4 Video Tutorial
In the Part 4 video tutorial, Monica shares helpful tips while making the Knight’s Cross block. You’ll learn how to stay organised when working with repeated FPP units, how pressing can help improve accuracy, and how to use travelling in the ditch when quilting the block to reduce stopping and starting.
We will see you in Part Five.
Feel free to leave any comments or questions below. Love, Alaura & Monica xx
